The Edge of Eternity
Recently we had our regional NTE for Tasmania. A small group from Launceston packed up to head down to Hobart for two days exploring how to live the good life on the "Edge of Eternity" as we wait for Christ's return. Usually, this is a conference held at the end of the year in Canberra with 2000 other students from around Australia to be transformed, trained and sent with the gospel. Nationally AFES has now decided to do it regionally every 3 years. Our mini version of this conference aimed to particularly serve the FOCUS international ministry being the reason for the change in time and length for the conference.
How much money should I give? How long should I spend on my hobbies? Should I commit to doing more at church? These are the types of questions the students tried to seek wisdom from the Bible. Drawing from 1 Cor. 7:36-38, the students learnt that sometimes these decisions matter, but also sometimes there may be multiple options which please God and he has given us the gift to choose and enjoy the decision we make.
Afterwards, on Sunday we also made contact with R* who became a Christian last year and moved to Hobart. We met her at Hillsong where she has been going. Attending a Pentecostal service was a bit of a new experience for the students who hadn't been before. It was good to connect with her again and we pray that she will continue to be drawn to the freeing truth found in the gospel.

Continuing the Mission
For the second semester, we have been invited by the student union, TUSA to be part of their Sexual Health and Guidance Week. If you want to know what it's about here is a link to the events page (beware, a bit confronting).
My initial response to this was to decline the offer to be part of it but as I reflected more, I could see how this might be a brilliant opportunity to present a better way in light of the gospel. Some of the events being put on are quite inappropriate (particularly for internationals) and in the end, actually lead people into relationships where they feel unsatisfied.
We have adapted to make this our main event for our Meet Jesus mission. It will be a series of presentations sharing stories, facts and advice on how to cultivate healthy long-lasting relationships. Among this, we will share what Jesus teaches about sacrificial love which is rare to see in our society these days.
This will be the evening of Friday, August 2nd. Let me know if your youth group or yourself may be interested in attending.
