Christ Likeness

The new semester is underway as most of the students adjust back into their study routines. Talking about routines, I have just moved house, which affected mine a bit last week. However, it has been a blessing to find a place so easily with 2 past Uni friends. Definitely appreciated some rest on Sunday, gathering with church family after a big week.

Moving to Inveresk

Here is a glimpse of the new Rivers Edge building at Inveresk. It's a very nice space with lots of small classrooms, offices and consultation rooms. The way UTAS has designed the place, it's quite evident that they want to move in the direction of flexible hybrid education. Nearly all the rooms are equipped with video conferencing facilities and are bookable by all staff and students which is a plus for our on-campus meetings.

I think this semester is going to be a key indicator of the future of University life in Launceston. I'm hoping that the more compact layout is going to help but it's mostly up to the supporting programs that are helping students build a new culture, which is still lacking.

As I was walking around today, there wasn't much traffic outside, but it is nice to see the library more full and a few groups of students meeting with each other in the new cafe.

Gathering Together

Monday Musters is our fortnightly meeting where our whole fellowship comes together to pray for friends/classmates and spend time being trained in mission for Christ, at Uni and beyond.

One of the key aims is to help students become more intentional in their evangelism by identifying people they may be able to share the gospel with and praying for them but also equipping them with tools they can use to engage in gospel conversations with these people.

One of the students last week mentioned to me that they were thinking about how they could use the 3 circles gospel presentation on a camp they were recently on. I'm hoping that our lunch events at Inveresk will be another opportunity for the students to make use of this tool.

This semester the teaching focus is going to keep a theme of 'Christ Likeness'. After coming out of MYC and looking at the theology of the Son of God, my hope is that we can now spend more time thinking about how we practically live following a life like Christ.

These are the topics we will be looking at. Please continue to encourage the students in your churches by asking them about what they are learning in our gatherings.

  • Like Christ (Holiness)
  • Becoming like Christ (Discipleship)
  • Living like Christ with others (Relationships)
  • Serving like Christ (Ministry)
  • Inviting others to become like Christ (Evangelism)

Please also join me in praying for the students and this ministry.

Prayer Points

  • Continue praying for student life during the transition to Inveresk.
  • Pray that the student's hearts for those who are lost would increase. May the gospel convict them in a way that causes them to naturally proclaim the wonders of Christ.
  • Pray for a new student, R* who has started coming to our Bible Groups. She isn't a Christian but has started attending a church since the start of the year and found us online.
  • In my last update, I didn't mention that I was going through a period of lethargy. Praise God that after taking advice from my doctor I am feeling more energised most mornings.
